  1. I absolutely hated running 400m in school. But back then, that’s because I was a reasonable sprinter but had no stamina! 400m was actually far for me to run – although I’ve since learnt that the reason I had no stamina was that I tried to run all distances at my 100 – 200m pace. Clearly not going to work 🙂

    • oh my gosh u poor thing, blasting out those 400’s at 100m pace…i think we all learn the pacing lesson the hard way! hehe. 🙂

  2. I had a love affair with quarters, and yes, they are high school nostalgia. Nowadays, if I did quarters they would destroy my legs, and they are not the area I need strength in. Maybe mile intervals, maybe even half’s, but thanks for the great post and making me feel young again.
*dang, your coach was tough. We didn’t have to do the 1 minute recovery jog in between, we could pace around if we wished, and I think we had more than a minute in between. I remember 10 to 12 of them, and all of them were little races, with a 2 mile warm up and 2 mile cool down.

    • glad i could take u back in time with those. 😉 and ‘little races’…you’ve got it right, especially in HS it’s funny how the competitive fires get ignited for each repeat…and some tough love for the frosh kids who go out guns blazing and are DYING by the last one. 😉

  3. Definately have seen more hen my fair share of quarters in my day. Sometimes I like hem and sometimes I don’t. It depends on the pace taken, the number done, and recovery. If they are fast with short recoveries to prep for shorter distances, well I flat out hate them. But if they are a bit slower where there is a large bulk of them, I do love them but more so after I finish.

    • good point, and i’m with u in that any time the workouts are geared toward volume it’s far more to my liking!! ugh, the short speed prep ones make my stomach churn. 😉
