I have no way of channelling my nerves! I’m a mess.
I didn’t actually race this weekend but I did run to the Marathon that was going on in the city and ran alongside a 100 year old man who set a new record for oldest marathoner! Wrote about it in today’s post 🙂 It was pretty epic, I must say. Such an amazing experience!
These are great tips! Yes, I get nervous before a 16+ mile long run. I’ve had good ones, but I’ve had really bad ones, as well, so I get just a little freaked out before each one.
ya, long runs can be like throwing the dice sometimes…there is a lot of time that allow for variables to crop up! i get nervous for them too…but a nervous/excited kind of feeling. 😛
Oh I totally get nervous before “hard” workouts and long runs! I don’t really have a method, I just try and visualize me crossing the finish line and reaching my goals. If negative thoughts get in my head I stop myself and just think about all the hard work and training I put in to be at the start line! And I’m such a blabber mouth; I’ll be all smiley and chatting it up with the other runners! I guess that’s another way to blow off some nerves!!!
visualization is a GREAT tip!! i think it also works wonders when u’re at the point in the race/workout where it’s hurting like a beast..i just remember how good i’ll feel once it’s done. 🙂
