I thought of Amy Hastings as soon as I saw the title! Surging in races is definitely a good tactic when it works. It gets me down mentally when my competition does that – I’ve fallen to it several times, not because I can’t keep up, but because I think I can’t keep up. It can be defeating!
haha yes I totally thought of the marathon trials when I saw this title! I watched an interview w/ Shalane and remember her saying “yeah we were basically fartleking the whole race”. The fartlek is definitely my favorite speed “workout” because for me it never feels like a workout when I do it on the roads…it really is “speed PLAY” for me haha. These look like fun 800s workouts to try though! I’m bookmarking this & sending it to my coach and telling her to put them in my training plan down the road 😀
This is even more important in bike racing. From what I hear “attacks” are the name of the game and basically are surges in the pace.
bike racing scares the BAZEEEZUS out of me, i’ve seen/heard what goes on in that pelaton!!!
