  1. Ah! I <3 Jenny Simpson! I didn't get a chance to watch or keep up w/ any of the world championships last year since I was right in the middle of moving away from home + starting grad school, but wow. That win is just…epic. I could watch that over and over and over and you're totally right – STILL inspiring!! I think if she can stay healthy, America + the world better look out this olympics. It DEFINITELY makes me want to go run some kickazz mile repeats! guess I'll bookmark this for when it comes time for me to do workouts like that lol.

As for the resurgence of US distance running, yeah, I'd definitely say I'm an example of the "trickle-down effect". I never ran in HS – in fact the first time I ever went for a run was summer after my senior year. by the time I arrived for freshman year on my college campus, I was walking on to the XC/Track team. The coach was a little skeptical but by the end of the season I was qualifying for Open New Englands in the 10k (division 3). The next year, I transferred and asked to walk on to a division I team, but decided I couldn't handle the mileage they were asking (90mpw when I'd only been running for one year) in addition to being pre-med. SO, except for that one year at D3, I never ran collegiate. But I kept running and doing HM's and somehow other people seemed to think I could do something bigger – like actually be competitive at a high level despite no college career – which is KIND OF RIDICULOUS but there are so many inspiring success stories out there….I'd be kind of ridiculous NOT to go after it right?

Ok anyway now that you know my life story haha…you should totally do more athlete profiles like this leading up to the track trials!! Are they going to be hosted in Eugene? I'm probably going to be in Eugene/Portland this summer and it'd be really sick to go watch…

    • haha…looks like u pulled one of my own epic comments!! naw, i do it all the time, but i luv hearing about people’s backgrounds! the trials are always awesome, if u’re able to GO!! 🙂

  2. I have been updating myself on Jenny Simpson. I just read about her in Running Times – my gosh she is awesome. Watching that video just solidified the fact that she is one of my inspirations. She is EPIC! That totally reminded my of Billy Mills. I think blogging has actually made me reach more for my goals in running. “Meeting” all these people who have has and still have amazing running careers has shown me that you don’t have to be super human to be a super runner – they are real people too!

  3. I am so proud and inspired by team USA this year!! I think the Olympics are going to be a rocking success and I can’t wait to watch!!
Thank you for sharing this video…amazing!
I hope you’re having a great weekend, xoxo!
