  1. ever since this time last year…my IT has been the culprit. not cool mr IT band. i finally got some sense and decided to stick with leg strengthening for a bit to see if it made any difference. i will run. and lift arm weights till im crazy…but forever and ever refused to lift legs because i was too scared they would be sore forever. sometimes they are. and sometimes it sucks to run on sore legs from lifting…but for the most part…i feel SO much stronger. i dont necessarily feel faster…just like my legs seem to recover more quickly and will carry me further even when tired. i hope its not just a fluke because i love feeling strong 😉

glad you are taking care of that calf!!

    • ugh, that IT band can be a nasty bugger and i’ve spent my fair share of time on the roller!! lol. and i’m glad that at least the positive that came out of ur flare-up was strength!! and trust me, it’s not a fluke…and i kno it’ll make u faster too, just give it time! 😉

  2. Oh that’s a good variation on the calf raises! apparently tight/weak calves were what caused my posterior tibial tendon issue this past fall, so I’m always really good about stretching & strengthening. calf raises aren’t challenging for me anymore so thanks for this new twist I can add!! My weak spot(s) are definitely my hamstrings. they’re always the first things to get sore when I amp up the running (they’re talkin to me right now hahah). I actually tore my left hamstring playing lacrosse when I was 12, so that side is perpetually weaker/more fragile…not much I can do about it though, what’s done is done haha.

    • when u’ve mastered doing the raises with just ur bodyweight, u can make them tougher by holding weights or place the benchpress bar w/weights on ur shoulders. 🙂 keep up the great work!

  3. Sorry to hear about your calf! Glad you’re taking good care of it though. Those squeaks and creaks always remind me to not take my body and my abilities for granted!
