  1. I’ve only ever gotten a massage twice in my life. Both times it was amazing, but they weren’t sports-specific type massages. I really need to find a masseuse (that is a hard word to spell) who specializes in sports massages. Especially for my poor calves.

As far as warming up goes, I always make sure to do so before a hard workout on the track. But for other types of runs (tempos, long runs, etc.) I like to just use the first couple of miles to get warm. I only ever stretch before track workouts, though. On any other kind of run, you won’t find me stretching until the end. I’ve read if you only have time for one or the other, go for a post-run stretch versus no stretching at all.

    • yes, there’s a bit of a difference between sports massage and other massage…the first one we have to remember that with some pain comes eventual relief! 😉 that said, it’s not all about ‘harder/deeper/painful is better’…all about balance. 🙂

  2. I am totally finding that I must warm up a bit rather than jump into full speed these days. I think it has something to do with the colder weather but lately it takes me a few miles to feel myself, warmed up and ready to go….I do try to eat within 30 minutes of a long run. The few times I didn’t I developed a massive headache and my muscles were much tighter. After routine shorter runs though I don’t always eat but I probably should. I always eat right before though, never run on an empty stomach.

    • good for you on the warming up!! oh yea, and colder weather will take longer to ‘feel’ ready to go. try to still eat some protein after those shorter runs…ur recovery will thank you. 😉

    • bad girl!! 😉 yea, refueling is super important but can be tough with stomach issues. many runners find liquid refuel can work and sit well…have u tried working with anything there?
