ooh man, those first couple runs….only the fact that its running can make discomfort like that worth it haha. I’m glad you’re makin a comeback though!!!! And yeah, cross training is essential or else you REALLY feel like poop haha – after my week+ break from working out I even had to ease back into the pool-running a bit! I like to mix up my workouts – I do a little bit of everything, bike, elliptical and pool-run…I try not to do the same thing more than 3 days in a row to keep my body on top of things!
glad you’re slowly getting back on the running train, so hard to dip the toes into the water slowly and not just jump in head first when coming back from injury. learned this lesson the hard way myself, it’ll always come and bite you in the ass later. i like to do yoga for cross training, but have been terrible at that lately and it is damn near painful trying to lengthen those tight muscles into any sort of beautiful yoga movements.
Yay Cait!!
I have been working back from some shonky lungs / fatigue from blood that is practically devoid of any scrap of iron and I have felt like I am majorly struggling. Yesterday I jumped on the treadmill telling myself I would just try and do 3 miles, and I ended up doing 5! I was so elated, I think the people around me might have been a little disturbed by my fist pump and jump off the treadmill…. In all seriousness, I am super glad that you are back on the road again (in a manner of speaking) and even though we aren’t running together physically I am now there with you in spirit (although probably still highly unlikely to be able to keep up with your speediness).
My cross training is still walking. Although with a few races in the works for next year I think I’ll have to get more well acquainted with the bike and the pool.
oh no!!! when did u find out u’re anemic?!?! ugh, i went thru that a few years back and had to get iron infusions, now i take a supplement, have u started taking anything to correct it?? make sure u’re getting that attended to my dear…it is NO FUN!!! but i’m glad u’re feeling better and got a five miler in, hey forget anyone who gave u a funny look, i’d be fist pumping too!! 🙂
I always ride the bike. 🙂
During intervals when it is coming down to the end I yell in my head, “FINISH STRONG”!!!!!!!! Sometimes I accidently yell out loud… jk 🙂
haha…hey, who cares if u’re yelling out loud so long as u’re kicking tush!! 🙂
That’s exactly how I’ve felt the past week or so! First run back was HARD, but I had a giant smile because I loved it anyway.
HURRAH for the two of us! 🙂
