  1. Hi Cait! Long time reader, first time commenter 🙂 Having that underlying passion for running is so true as you point out since we will all have the ups and downs of health vs. injury. I was out for 6 weeks with a torn calf in 2012 and then not long after it healed, I ended up with heel bursitis and was out another 3 (can you say aggressive in my training??? duh!). I was a total grump to be around while I couldn’t run. I hated going through those injured periods, but it did help me gain a long-term perspective on running and bring me back to the true joy of just being about to get out and MOVE when I was finally healed. Every day I can run is a blessing, no doubt! Enjoy your blog!

    • hi kate!! thanks for your valued readership and YAY for the first comment. 🙂 while i HATE injuries, you’re so right, they always offer up a reality slap to never take your running for granted. that said…i’m SOOO happy you’re back up and healed!! keep on running with that love and passion! 🙂

  2. My Cait! Thank you for such a wonderful post as always, and on something so close to home for me. Although I have not been medicated for it, I do suffer from mild depressive episodes, and I work hard to make sure I recognise the signs and stay away from things that cause me to be ‘down’. Running is one of the best ways I have found to boost my happiness and blast away the bad moods. There is nothing like feeling your own physical strength to realise your mind is just as strong – and the endorphins don’t hurt either.
I feel sorry for that poor man who has had to switch sports, but really I don’t think it could have been just the running. Who knows what goes on in this guys world off the track or inside his mind for that matter?
Outside of running what keeps me happy: my friends and family, writing, reading, and baking 🙂 (of course).

    • thanks, chickpea, and i really appreciate your openness and honesty on this matter. i always tell people they shouldn’t be embarrassed about things like this, the important thing is to find a way to get yourself happy, watever that takes. great advice: recognize signs and triggers.
that said, i’m happy u have so many things to brighten those moods and remind you how AWESOME u are. 🙂 i’m gonna throw myself under the friends category, whether u like it or not. 😉 hehe

      • Of course you are in the friends category!!!!!
Your posts lift my spirits and are my motivation to get out, get physical, and eat endorphins for breakfast!!!

  3. Two truths and a lie: My first road race ever was a half marathon. I ran cross country for one year in high school. I have never run over 40 miles in a week.

Okay, which one is the lie?? 🙂

I always feel better when I run and it makes me a happier person. But I also find happiness in life by spending time with family and with my dogs.

      • Haha that is some good thinking and you are right! Good job 🙂 I actually played high school field hockey in the fall all four years, but swimming year round pretty much took up the rest of my life 🙂
