And a Wee Bit ‘O Luck to Ya…

Yes, Happy Saint Patrick’s Day! I could also say St. Patty’s Day but every time I do it makes me think there should really be a Happy York Peppermint Patty’s Day somewhere around here too. ;)

I hope you’ve all been having a great one and doing a little celebrating yourself. I’m not a drinker, so if you are feel free to have my leftover beers. I do love everything green, though, and you could find me noshing on some green chocolate chip pancakes. (My dad used to make those for us when I was a kid on St. Patty’s Day.)

It’s a fact that my all-time favorite color is lime green and so let’s hear it for a few more oh-so cliched Irish holiday inspired items:

* Don’t steal my lucky shamrock. Do you believe in luck? Do you have little trinkets, rituals, or things you swear to others you know don’t really bring you luck but you have them/do them anyways just because, well, it couldn’t hurt? Hey, I own up to the fact that whenever I see a clock reading 11:11 I make a wish to myself. ;)

* Leaping Leprechauns! Those little guys have springs on their legs, or maybe they have just been doing a ton of plyometrics. ;) I HATE doing those plyo’s, this girl can’t jump, but they work wonders for your speed. So get to jumping like a wee, green man!

* Corned beef and cabbage, say what? I’m not a big corned beef fan, I do like cabbage. But don’t shy away from all red meats if you do like them because they have iron, which is super important for runners! If you don’t like red meats (guilty) then seek out other iron rich foods…hey, spinach is a leafy green that contains a lot of iron. It could be cut into the shape of a clover too…maybe. Teehee.
prankster
* Pranksters! I wish I were really good at pulling off great pranks and such but I am so gullible that I usually end up being the one pranked. That said I use sarcasm like it’s going out of style and plenty of times people think I’m being serious and sometimes that gets me in a wee bit ‘o trouble.

* Spuds! I am in love with the spud, I’ll take me my fair share of potatoes and then some. My favorite is probably a big ‘ol baked potato loaded with chicken, broccoli…and actually cottage cheese. Is that last one weird? I don’t care, I like it. And for you skin haters…you’re missing out, the skin of the potato contains nearly all of the awesome vitamins and nutrients found in the potato…so choke the skin down if you have to. Jk.

* Friends and merry, good times. You picture people celebrating St. Patty’s Day and you think of parties, people, and good times. I’m all for that…whether you are a fellow sweat obsessed runner or not, you can be my friend. :)

Have a wonderful Saint Patrick’s Day and I think I’m going to talk to someone about instituting a York Peppermint Patty’s Day too! ;) (naturally then, we’ll need a Junior Mints Day…just saying.)

1) What did you/are you doing for St. Patty’s Day?

2) What is your favorite St. Patty’s themed item?

3) Do you believe in ‘luck’ or do you have a lucky item/ritual?

4) Do you like potatoes? Are you a fan of corned beef and cabbage? How do you make sure you get enough iron? Pick any of those and answer…hehe.

  1. Wooo St. Patty’s Day!! Okay so I will admit to not having been a huge fan of this holiday in the past, because everyone assumes that I’m Irish, but I’m totally not and I feel left out lol (I am 50% Scottish, but its NOT the same thing people!!) This year I didn’t do much since my USATF coaching certification was this weekend, but it was on a college campus so I got to see all the drunk kids wandering around hahahah. And I totally always make a wish at 11:11 too!!!!!! I also have a special/”lucky” coffee mug that I use on mornings when I’m really hoping for a good day haha. It has a rising sun painted on it, so I’m like “if I use this, then I will have a happy sunny positive day!” lol it really works too, if only cuz it puts me in the right mindset :-P

Also I’m totally about to email you cuz I really want a custom header design for my blog and I’d be honored to have it be your design!!

    • what, every fair skinned person isn’t irish?? ;) totally kidding!! haha. hey, hope that coaching certification finished up well and power to us 11:11 wishers! confession, i do it for pretty much any other time all the numbers are the same…lol.

yay!! totally can’t wait for u to email me, we’ll get u the best looking header ever! holla! :)

  2. I ran my first half marathon on St. Patty’s day! It was fun :) I have lime green shoes and a green sports bra, so I wear those and was “in the spirit”. I hate doing plyo’s too – my rugby team makes us do them and I’m just like, NOT INTO IT. Happy belated St. Patrick’s day!

    • CONGRATS!!! so much fun on the race, and hey, even better it was free! :) okay, i may or may not want to sneak over and swipe all that lime green gear u have…tee hee. :)

  3. Awesome! And i’ll celebrate york peppermint patty day, I love those little suckers!!!
    1) What did you/are you doing for St. Patty’s Day? I did…nothing! But i did manage to at least wear a little bit of green :) and I had roasted zucchini with dinner…

    2) What is your favorite St. Patty’s themed item? shamrocks! they’re so cute. and I love green things that are minty flavored!

    3) Do you believe in ‘luck’ or do you have a lucky item/ritual? I don’t believe in luck per se. But I have items I like to keep around. Like touch stones! I wear the wing necklace my boyfriend gave me especially to auditions where I want extra “luck”

    4) Do you like potatoes? Are you a fan of corned beef and cabbage? How do you make sure you get enough iron? I LOVE potatoes. I don’t like beef or cabbage and to be honest I never really think about iron at all. Perhaps I should…

Hope you had a great St. Pattys day and that you got to eat your way out of a peppermint patty igloo!

    • “eat your way out of a peppermint patty igloo!” < — okay, now u know i need to MAKE this a reality or at least a cartoon!!! love the mental picture!! :)

oh and i love touch stones, and that wing necklace sounds beautiful, i wanna see a pic. :)

  4. I completely forgot it was St. Patrick’s day yesterday until I saw my neighbors decorating their mailbox with green stuff. I didn’t put it together at first because they are Irish and do nutty stuff pretty often, but then I looked at the calendar. I guess having a toddler doesn’t blend well with drinking holidays :)

    • hahaha!! okay, i love how u describe ur neighbors: “they are irish an do nutty stuff”…hehe. don’t feel bad, i’d prolly forget most holidays if it weren’t for FB or Twitter storms. :P

  5. Happy (belated) St. Patty’s Day! I <3 potatoes and corned beef and beer, so this holiday is right up my alley.

Broccoli is a great source of iron, too! :)
